Vintage Seguso “Bullicante” Bowl
Archimede Seguso, glass artisan and designer, was one of the key figures in 20th century glassmaking. Born, raised and trained on the island of Murano, where he of course also worked, he’s been a pioner of modern techniques of glass working. The “Sommerso” style, originally envisioned by Flavio Poli, came to life in his workshop.
The present piece, in a vibrant hue of pink, mixes two particular techniques: the aforementioned “Sommerso”, where a coloured glass layer is “submerged” in a clear (or differently coloured) layer, and the “Bullicante”, in which a spike is used to include little air bubbles between two layers of glass – in this case pink and clear.
The bowl is preserved in pristine conditions and almost looks brand new, but is actually dating all the way back to the 1960s. It’s a great chance to secure a charming and stunningly preserved piece of Italian design from six decades ago!
