Murano glass bowl – emerald green – Vetrerie di Empoli
This Murano glass bowl, designed and made in Italy attributed to the glass makers Vetreie di Empoli , it has a simple and Classic “round” shape. It was originally intended as an ashtray, or just as a bowl. It can be dated approximately to the mid 1960s, based on the style and colors of the piece.
It shows the particular deformations and pinches on the glass that gives to the pieces great deformed reflections when the light hits the glass. Unsigned, as most pieces of that era, it shows great craftsmanship, and is preserved in beautiful conditions. No cracks, dents or damages of sort are visible, and just a light patina and scratches proves it is actually a 60 years old object. In the first years of the last century, Vetrerie di Empoli began to produce artistic glassware for dining, alongside its traditional lines of wine flasks and demijohns; the venture soon became a commercial success, with an unexpected artistic and cultural impact.
In 1935, decades ahead of its time, Vetrerie di Empoli opened branded stores in Rome, Turin and Milan, and the green glass of Empoli began to be seen in many Italian homes. With the passing of time, the traditional glassware evolved from plain rustic styles to increasingly elegant designs, and additional stores sprang up in Milan, first in Via Pietro Verri and then in the chic central location of via Montenapoleone. Today, Vetrerie di Empoli routinely welcomes the most sophisticated international clientele, satisfying their demands for a distinctive product of high quality and innovative, striking design. This excellence is guaranteed by the family’s dedication to realizing new and original collections, some even patented internationally, thanks to expertise accumulated over more than a century.
