Giuseppe Riccardo Lanza painting

Born in Turin, Italy in 1933, Giuseppe Riccardo Lanza has been a multi-faceted protagonist of the Italian art world. With a short career, ended tragically by his premature death in 1986, he left a mark on painting, sculpting, photography and graphic design. His artistic explorations began from wood sculptures, and later moved on to plexiglas engraving and mirror artworks. Meanwhile, he carried on a career as a photographer, and created several abstract paintings that were released in very limited editions of screen prints.

The present work, dating to the late 1970s, is indeed number 36 in and edition of 50; it’s a screenprint in black, depicting what is probably the profile of a city – a recurring subject in Lanza’s production; the subject, however, could also look like the blueprint of some cut-off industrial component.

It’s framed in wood and protected by a sheet of glass.
