Brass Bed by Osvaldo Borsani and Arnaldo Pomodoro
Osvaldo Borsani and Arnaldo Pomodoro are two famous and well respected exponents of Italian creativity, Both active in the second half of the 20th century. The first was an architect and furniture designer – especially known for his founding role in Tecno, and as author of iconic pieces such as the P40 and Canada lounge chairs; the latter is instead one of the most influential modern artists in Italy, active mainly as a sculptor but also as an engraver, painter and decorator.
It is little known, however, that at some point in the 1960s they joined forces to create a series of beds produced in very limited series that brought together Borsani’s sleek and contemporary lines with Pomodoro’s materic and personal approach to sculpture. The headpieces of each bed are cast in solid brass after original drawings of the artist, and show his unmistakable touch consisting of corrugated and very “tactile” brass elements.
The present bed is part of that collection, and has been preserved in very good conditions, and even though the main structure shows signs of the time (the faded paint visible in pictures) the buyer can request for the frame to be repainted in a color of his choice before shipping.
